Who is Betty Boop?
If you are a comics enthusiast, then you probably have heard about Betty Boop. Betty Boop is a popular cartoon character created by Grim Natwick. Her overt appeal lies in her sexy character that has seen her featured in a comic strip in the 1930s and another one in the 1980s. She has also featured in the Betty Boop and Talkatoon film series which are produced by Fleischer Studios.
Although Betty Boop was supposed to have been an Anthropomorphic French poodle, the sexy girl mode proved to be more appealing. Betty Boop first appeared on August 9, 1930 as a sexy cartoon character in the sixth Talkatoon installment called Dizzy Dishes. Betty’s character was based on the popular 1920s singer Helen Kane and another equally popular actress, Clara Bow. Bow’s strong Brooklyn accent became Betty Boop’s trademark accent. In 1932, Betty Boop appeared in Max Fleischer’s cartoon Any Rags in a complete human mode.
Margie voice was the first to perform Betty Boop’s voice. Other voice actresses to have rendered their voice to Betty Boop’s character include Ann Rothschild, Kate Wright, Bonnie Poe and Mae Questel. Mae voiced for the character from 1931 to 1938.
Perhaps the one cartoon that best describes Betty’s teenage years is the Talkatoon series, Minnie the Moocher. The character is portrayed as a modern raised teenager who is at logger heads with her tradition-bound parents. Her constant disagreements with her parents cause her to run away from home but she gets lost in a cave together with her boyfriend, Bimbo. The cave in which they get lost is haunted by several ghosts and skeletons. Betty and Bimbo are too frightened to stay in the cave so they return home. This Talkatoon was very successful and set the stage for the other Talkatoons that featured Betty Boop.
Betty Boop is one of the most prominent animated sex symbols. She was the first cartoon character to represent a real sexual woman. Everything about her, even her dressing and mannerisms, were designed to bring out as much sexuality as possible. In many of her cartoons, the male characters are always trying to get a peek of her while she is changing or doing anything else. In some instances, such as the Betty Boop’s Bamboo Isle and Popeye the Sailor cartoons, she is featured topless, wearing only a grass skirt and a lei.
Betty Boop’s character was created with a head that is evidently larger than an adult human’s. However, the head is the normal size for a baby. This could explain the innocence, girlishness and sense of maturity that Betty portrays in her cartoons. Betty has been paired with other popular cartoon characters such as Little Jimmy and The Little King, in a bid to keep up her popularity. Betty Boop theme song also became quite popular after initial series of the cartoon. Betty made her last cartoon appearances in 1939. Her last cartoon, ‘Rhythm on the Reservation” features her driving a convertible with the label, “Betty Boop’s Swing band”. She is seen driving through a reservation fro Native Americans, trying to teach them swing music.
In 1988, Betty made an appearance in the film “Who Framed Roger Rabbit”. Betty boop has continued to appear in a number of films. Her comic book character is one of the most popular, though it has gone through a lot of revisions over the years since the character was created.

Is it a compliment to be compared to Betty Boop?
I was told last night by an Italian guy that I looked like Betty Boop. I have never been compared to a cartoon character before, so I didn't know if this was a good thing as she does have a rather large head. Haha.
That can be a good and bad thing. She has a giant head, but I don't think the Italian guy would mention it if he thought so. So I guess it is good, because Betty Boop has pretty hair, and a good bod. So, I guess it would be a complment.
