Why do people from the East Coast call purses pocketbooks?
I'm from Michigan, but live in California now. I carry a purse, maybe a handbag. My brother in law, who is from Maryland, calls them pocketbooks. And I've heard other people from New York or other northern east coast states refer to purses as pocketbooks. Any ideas why? Pocketbook to me is old school.
My friend in Connecticut asked me to hand her her pocketbook, so I was searching around for a little book that might fit into a pocket. She also calls the liquor store a "package store" so I told her I go in there for liquor, its in a bottle. THe clerk puts it in a bag. And she said "And you walk out with a package, so I'm right." She got me there.
