The band was first formed in Albany, California and is credited as helping to revive mainstream popular interest in punk rock in the United States during the 1990s. They are best known for the singles, "Ruby Soho," "Time Bomb," "Salvation" and "Fall Back Down." Rancid's first recorded release was a 1992 EP and shortly afterward they released their self titled debut album in 1993. They then released the albums titled Let's Go as well as And Out Come the Wolves. The latter album actually surpassed the first one in success, much thanks to the hit singles that were featured on And Out Come the Wolves. Notably those songs are: "Toots Radicals," "Time Bomb," "Ruby Soho." All of these songs charted on the North American Billboard Modern Rock Tracks. The band went on to perform two of these songs on an episode of Saturday Night Live. Quickly the band was rising to the top of the ranks on the charts and people were wasting no time in obtaining several pairs of Rancid tickets before they all sold out.
Rancid is known for having many different elements in their songs, like reggae, rockabilly, dub, hip hop and funk. They took a brief hiatus in 2004 after their tour for Indestructible, although they got back together in 2006 and have continued to play for fans since then.
