Pure Pashmina Shawls and Original Pashmina
The word pashmina is derived from the Persian word for wool. Pashmina weaving began some 400 years ago in the Kashmir Valley and was earlier considered the choice fabric of the royal families. Pure pashmina is unmistakable for its softness, negligible weight and warmth. Only Kashmir is the land in the world where one can get Original Pashminas and original cashmere pashmina shawls. Pashmina manufactures in Kashmir are the ones from whom you can expect the Pure Pashmina shawls and scarves.
Pure Pashmina are weaved on handlooms from cashmere handspun from the shaggy coat of a goat which lives in the heights of the Himalayas in Indian
Thousands of craftsmen with women mostly spinning and men weaving the delicate yarn into warm, soft scarves and shawls. Expert kashmiri women artisan involve themselves in spinning activity. The spinning wheel locally known as Inder has got a great significance in the Kashmiri culture. The famous cashmere pashminas that are considered unique for their quality, texture, softness and elegant look would be woven from the threads spun on the wheel.
Spinning wheel is entirely made of wood except a thin iron rod fitted to its left. With the turning of the wheel, rotates the rod. The wheel is made of small planks, placed in two circles, with a joint in the centre holding them together and parallel at a certain distance from each other. The wheel is operated in a sitting posture, with the right hand rotating its wheel and the left hand holding properly the cleaned and softened aggregate of wool against the sharp pointed end of the rotating iron rod, so that fine threads of wool come out.
What makes the Cashmere Pashmina shawls superior and quality pashmina is not only the fineness of the individual pashm fibers, but also meticulous cleaning, sorting, dehairing and hand spinning. These are all manual skills, perfected by Kashmiri women and passed down through generations since the late 16th century, the time when the Mughal emperors began to encourage the shawl industry.
The beautiful vale of Kashmir has always been famed for its craftsmanship. The wearing of tapestry shawls was first introduced into the valley from Turkistan by Zain-Ul-Abdin, the ruler of Kashmir, in the 15th century. Production benefited from the patronage of the Mughal rulers like Akbar and his successors, who wore these shawls, and also because of patronage of local government.

How does one remove the little round balls of wool which form on a woolen shawl or blanket?
You could use scissors or one of those battery operated fuzz shavers.
However, by doing this, you are actually weakening the fabric because you are cutting the threads.
It is better to learn how to avoid the problem by washing the item on the gentle cycle in a machine, or washing it by hand. If it is a garment, wash it inside out (by hand or by machine) and lay it flat to dry. They make special net drying gadgets with frames to hold the item up off the table and speed up the drying time. If it does pill, it will be on the inside of the garment. There are also special mesh bags made for washing delicate items. You can put the item inside the bag, zip it up and toss it in the washer. With the blanket, you could wash it in the delicate cycle, then hang it outside to dry. This should cut way down on the pilling.
To repair the damage you already have on the blanket, brushing it in one direction with a soft hairbrush may help a little.
